This angel was found on an above ground
tomb located in Metairie Cemetery.
Metairie Cemetery was established in 1872 on land that was once
a racetrack. Oddly enough, a portion of the property was used
to bury the thousands of yellow fever victims that died in the
epidemic of 1853. Louisiana legends who are buried here range
from governors to Storyville madams.
"Everytime I close my eyes blowing that trumpet
of mine – I look right into the heart of good old New Orleans
– it has given me something to live for." –Louis
Armstrong
